Welcome to Cottonwood Farm
online.
2008 is here and we are now into our 24th year of operating of Cottonwood Farm.
On behalf of Sarah, Marty and Terry Hunt we would like to give a special thank you
to all our customers who have become friends, and to each of our employees who have
become like family. None of this would be possible without you.
Now for over two decades at Cottonwood Farm our only goal
remains to breed, raise and sell outstanding
equine athletes. Our plan to accomplish that goal is simply summarized in our
motto -
Over the years we have been blessed with some great stallions,
outstanding broodmares, and a tremendous group of employees who share that
commitment and dedication.

Illinois Yearling Sale
Historical Data
We held our first
yearling sale at the farm in 1994. Click on the following link to view a
summary of the reported
results of all the standardbred yearling sales in Illinois since that time
through the sales held last fall.

Analysis of the Comparative
Impact on the Illinois Agri-Business Economy between the Standardbred industry
and the Thoroughbred industry.
Clearly the media
coverage of harness racing, in Illinois and throughout the world, pales in
comparison to the thoroughbreds. Therefore it is understandable that many
of our state legislators are more familiar with the Kentucky Derby than the
Little Brown Jug. I serve as co-chair of the IHHA Legislative Committee
and have had the opportunity to work with George Bonomo and our lobbyists as we
try to educate the legislative leaders and their staffs to the relative
importance of harness racing in Illinois compared to thoroughbreds.
Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, so I developed a few charts and
graphs of key factors in the evaluating the Illinois agri-business contribution
of those two segments racing. In summary, harness racing plays a much more
significant role in Illinois agri-business in terms of stallions, mares and
foals involved in the ICF programs which equates to acres of farm land and the
business of related local suppliers, the number of races conducted which creates
a variety of year-round jobs, and the number of county fairs where harness meets
are held providing not only the background to develop new harness racing stars
but to support the local 4-H and FFA programs as well. Click on the link
to see clearly that
harness
racing contributes far more to the Illinois agri-business economy than the
thoroughbreds.
