Former World Champion
IDEAL TOWNE
was retired from racing fresh on the heels of his latest triumph where he
equaled the stakes record winning his second consecutive Dan Patch S. at Balmoral Park on Super Night. Cottonwood Farm is honored that stallion
owners Dick Elmore and Denny Pietranduono have chosen our facility to begin his
new career as a stallion. We are looking forward to his first foal crop,
scheduled to arrive this spring.
Ideal Towne won 26 races over his career - winning better than 31% of his
career starts. A remarkably consistent and durable horse, he
finished 1-2-3 in over 60% of his lifetime races and averaged over $9,000 a
start.
As a two year old, Ideal Towne set a world record winning the Cardinal in
1:53.3h at Maywood Park. He also won the Sarah Myers Stake, eliminations
of both the Cardinal and the Orange & Blue. He was also second, beaten
just a head, in the Orange & Blue final. His freshman statistics were
seven starts with five wins and a pair of seconds. Ideal Towne took his
two year old record of 1:52.1 at Balmoral and amassed $145,530 in earnings that
season.
His three year old campaign opened at the Meadowlands where Ideal Towne won
the $300,000 Berrys Creek in 1:52 flat. The next week he returned to
Balmoral Park where he won the elimination of the Cardinal in 1:51.4 to reduce
his lifetime record another notch. That season he won an ISOBA at Maywood
in 1:52.3h, the Dudley Hanover Stake at DuQuoin and an elimination of the State
Fair Colt Stakes at Springfield. When the dust had settled, Ideal Towne
had started 19 times with a seasonal summary of 5-5-2 and earnings of $258,812.
As an aged performer, between 2001 and 2003, Ideal Towne went postward 41
times with 16 wins, 3 seconds, and 6 thirds. He reduced his lifetime
record to 1:49.3 as a five year old, and lowered it another tick to 1:49.2 at
six. He won nearly $350,000 after his three year old stakes season, and is
one of only two horses to successfully defend his title as Dan Patch champion on
Super Night.
He clearly had "what it takes" on the race track, and he brings an impressive
pedigree to the breeding shed. Ideal Towne is far and away the leading son
of the late, great Ideal Society whose influence on the racetracks throughout
the country is still evident. His dam is a 100% producing daughter of the
great Abercrombie. Ms Indiana has produced seven foals older than two. All of them taken race records of 1:57 or better,
and four of them have sub 1:55 marks - including this year's standout filly Ms
Abbiedancer p,4,1:53 - '05 $118,242.
"Towne's" first crop are now racing. Although there
were only 16 registered foals from that group, 7 started with 4
winners including 1 in 1:55 and 2 in 2:00. Leading the way in his first
crop is the stakes winning colt OMAHA SURVIVOR p,2,1:52.1-'07 $63,721, the
stakes winning filly TOWNES PARTY GIRL p,2,1:55.3-'07, and a county fair
stakes winners COMMON CREED p,2,2:02.3h-'07 and MY KIND OF TOWNE
p,2,2:07.3h-'07. Ideal Towne is
off to a good start and the best is yet to come.
